Oracle Fusion Applications installation – Step by step guide (11.1.5)

Fusion Applications 11.1.5 installation is not straightforward unlike E-Business Suite 11i/R12 installation. So we need to divide the installation into following main steps. Please note that we have changed the default order since we are going to host both RCU in one database which is fine since both have different schemas. This will save us a lot of Memory for the VM or Host. Please note that we will be performing single node installation so all components will be installed on single node. All steps are provided with detailed screenshots.

Note: If you are looking for Fusion Applications 11.1.7 installation steps then you can refer to following link.

http://www.oratraining.com/blog/2013/11/oracle-fusion-applications-installation-step-by-step-guide-11-1-7/

If you are looking for Fusion Applications 11.1.6 installation steps then you can refer to following link.

http://www.oratraining.com/blog/2013/03/oracle-fusion-applications-installation-step-by-step-guide-11-1-6/

Note: I could see that a lot of you were still referring to the installation steps in my older posts for FA 11.1.1.5 or 11.1.4 etc, I have redirected all those old posts to this now. Also please do not use a saved version of the posts since we keep updating the posts based on new findings, issues, workarounds and suggestion from fellow community members. If you still want the documents for older versions, please comment below so that I will provide alternate link to you.

Preparing for Oracle Fusion Applications installation

  1. Downloading Oracle Fusion Applications media
  2. OR
Install Oracle Linux or Solaris on a Physical machine (We are using physical machine this time)

  3. Staging/Creating Oracle Fusion Applications provisioning repository

Installing Oracle Fusion Applications – steps

  1. Create another database for Oracle Identity Management Infrastructure (optional)

We are going to install Fusion Applications 11.1.5 for Oracle Solaris Operating system. The installation is almost same as Linux installation so you can use this guide for any installation. So we will download the installation media for Oracle Fusion Applications 11.1.5 for Oracle Solaris SPARC from http://edelivery.oracle.com

Login to access the following screen.

Select “Oracle Fusion Applications” and required platform from the list. Click Go. Open the first pack.

Download the first 17 media files (excluding README). We will not need rest of the media for this installation. Unzip all these files into one Stage directory.

Important Note: Since some of the files have very long directory path (very close to 255 characters), please unzip these files into stage folder name to keep short name. At least 2 files have very long path so let us try to avoid this.

We must have OS installed either on physical or a virtual machine in order to proceed with the installation.

Note: We can also use VMWare to host the Virtual Machine. We will post another guide on setting up VMWare virtual machine. But the good thing is that the virtual machine/disks which we create in VirtualBox, same we can use in VMWare as well since we will create .vmdk format disks. This will add flexibility for you to use it anywhere later.

We are using following configuration for our single node installation.

Server: Oracle (Sun) Enterprise Server
OS: Oracle Solaris 10 64 bit
Memory: Recommended 64 GB. More the memory, smoother the installation
Swap disk: 80 GB
Local available Disk space: 300 GB
Processor: Sun SPARC Quod core processor

Next: Install Fusion Applications Provisioning Framework

    Hi Tushar,

Thanks for your immediate response, here my doubt is which VMWare we should download and install to complete fusion installation process.

As you given following link to download, but which version we should install is not clear”https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads”.

      Dear Prashant babu,

This article already includes a post showing how to install Oracle Linux on Windows using VirtualBox.
      http://www.oratraining.com/blog/2012/02/creating-oracle-virtualbox-virtual-machine-with-oracle-linux/

The steps for VMWare are almost identical for VMWare with almost same interface. I had posted a similar guide for VMWare long back. I will still add one more guide with latest version but till then you can use the same guide mentioned above and let me know if you face any issues.

      Regards

      Dear Diwakar,

So far we have posted installation guides fro Linux (11.1.6 and 11.1.1.5) and Solaris (11.1.5), while windows steps are mostly same except the pre-requisites and patches. Technically everything remains the same other than these 2. I will try to see if I can do a demo install on windows and post steps but not going to be very soon.

      Thanks

    HI Admin,

Please let me know is it correct configuration or not.We are planning to install HCM and CRM offerings of FA 11.1.5.

We have 2 servers. In server1 we are planning to install FADB,IDMDB and IDM Mid-Tier.
And Some of the domains will be placed into Server2 and some of the domains will be placed to server1.

Here doubt is ,Is it correct configuration if I install some of FA domains in server1 where IDM mid tier is running.

If it is not correct configuration can you please provide the reason.

    Thanks in Advance.

      Dear Thireesh,

First of all I need to know your servers configuration before answering the question. Also may I know why do you want to keep few domains on same node which already has 2 DBs and identity management components. Technically speaking it is possible, we have even installed everything on single high specs server but I would not recommend but still I will first wait for your hardware specs details.

Also why are you starting with 11.1.5 when we already have 11.1.6 available and more stable than 11.1.5

You can follow our 11.1.6 guide at following location.

    Dear Tammous,

Sorry for the late reply since having plenty of questions in queue.
As per our knowledge currently due to limitation of Fusion Applications architecture, you cannot add an all new product offering to an existing Fusion Applications environment. But you can surely add/select a new option in existing offering by using Oracle Fusion Applications Functional Setup Manager. For example if you have provisioned and configured only Workforce Deployment in Fusion HCM then you can later configure other functionalities like Workforce Development or Compensation Management using Functional setup manager. But you cannot add Financials later (as on today) even though the interdependent functionalities are already enabled during installation. In Functional setup manager if you select the checkbox next to a product which is not PROVISIONED then it will show a message mentioning the consequences of doing so.

Oracle is already working on this and they will later enable adding new offering as well just like we do in eBusiness suite.

Hope this helps. By the way I will put a post regarding this since many people have same question.

    Best regards

Just found that FA/IDM is not certified on OEL 6.x. If you get the sqlplus.mk link error, that’s the problem. At this point, just ignore and continue. Any abnormalities is unknown. During the patching process, there were errors too, so, also ignore and move on.

    Hello there,
as you have listed about the host/server specs. You’re using a single host with 32GB RAM and about 500GB disk space. My question is, can FusionApps really run on that machine? I understand it’s a sandbox but I thought it’s a beast and it requires much more than that for the install to even finish.

    Just curious.

I am, too, using a single box, a little higher than yours. 128GB RAM, 3TB local disk. Running on Oracle VM(OVM), each VM Guest is running on Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.x (OEL).

    Thank you so much again.

Thanks JL for the appreciation. All we need is to spread the word. We also do professional trainings who want one-on-one interaction and for everyone we give free online stuff so that the FA community benefits from this. All we need from you is to let others know that we exist 🙂

Again, this is fantastic! I’ve landed on other sites including reading 11.1.5 manuals and it’s been such a difficult task. You have just made it a bit easier for me and I think I will finally complete the install.

No steps are not identical with 11.1.1.5. We have 300 pages worth screenshots, logs etc only for this step in raw format and we are taking some time in order to present it in a most useful form to all of you. Give us a day or two and it will be complete.
